Dr. Mary E. D’Alton, M.D., is a nationally recognized physician specializing in Maternal–Fetal Medicine and the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She also serves as Director of Services at the Sloane Hospital for Women at NewYork-Presbyterian, where she is actively involved in advancing care for patients with complex and high-risk pregnancies.
Dr. D’Alton clinical work focuses on the management of pregnancies complicated by serious maternal or fetal conditions. She has played a central role in developing coordinated, multidisciplinary models of care for the highest-risk obstetric patients, including leadership in the establishment of the Carmen and John Thain Center for Prenatal Pediatrics and the Mothers Center at NewYork-Presbyterian.
In addition to her clinical leadership, Dr. D’Alton has made substantial contributions to medical education, research, and health policy in women’s health. Her work has been recognized nationally, including election to the National Academy of Medicine in 2013. Dr. D’Alton has served in numerous leadership roles within national professional organizations, including the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). As co-chair of ACOG District II’s Safe Motherhood Initiative, she has played a key role in efforts to reduce maternal mortality in New York State and nationally.
She is the author or contributor to more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and serves as co-editor of Seminars in Perinatology. Dr. D’Alton has also served on the editorial board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, ACOG’s flagship journal.
